Short time Courses

Postby fcamlar » Thu May 31, 2007 1:39 pm

Hi all,

I'm planing to go to Ireland in Sept to spend 4 or 5 months learning English.

What I want is to aply for a job and/or to find a short course no matter what..

Questions about courses:
Do you know how can I find short time courses (days, 2 weeks, 1 month, or 4 months as the longest)? Is there a web? Are there advertising about this kind of courses in the University, or where?...
Is anything special needed to join this courses? I'm european (spanish).

About the job? what kind of job do you think is easy to find for me? I'm telecomunications engineer, I speak english, but not as Bono, . I want to find a job as soon as posible, but I can spend 1 month or two waiting for a good job. As I've said I may join a course. ;p.

Is there any other way of learning english there, not having an english course or a irish girlfriend. The last is the one I think is the best, but I love mine, so...

Is it easy to find a double room in Dublin for a couple, without havinj a jog yet but looking for it? How much can it be per month? Is there any other way to live there two persons four months?

Thanks in advance. Gracias!
Fernando

Buenos dias, Fernando. I think the best site for you to have a look at would be www.acels.ie. It will give you a list of recognised English language schools all over the country. There may also be other private colleges that run English language courses but the ones on that list are recognised by the Department of Education and Science. Have a look at their websites or phone them to see what they have to offer and what they charge. They will be able to judge what standard of course you would require when you talk to them. They may also have details of accommodation available in the area, especially if outside of Dublin. The cost of gettting a double room in Dublin would be much dearer than down the country. You could have a look at www.daft.ie which is a property related website where you can look for a place to rent. It may be difficult enough to get such a short letting. You may be able to house share? It is very difficult to say how much it would cost per month as it would vary very much on the locality. Be sure to check out a locality well before you commit yourselves to renting because you may end up in a very rough area for a small rent and it would not be worth it. If you have any contacts (friends, relations etc) in Dublin, ask them for their advice or the Gardaí (Irish Police) if necessary. Another problem is that you will be clashing with all the students coming back to college and there will be a huge demand for accommodation at that time of year (September) in Dublin and in any of the cities that have a third level college. As regards gettiing a job, well, you could check the daily papers when you come but there are a few websites such as www.irishjobs.ie and www.monster.ie. Your main problem with most of those jobs though, may be the short period you will be here and they may not be prepared to take on someone like that. Other than doing the usual things that students do, like working in restaurants, bars, Mac Donalds etc., it is difficult to know what to suggest for a mature Spanish Telecommunications Engineer! Buena suerte!!Miriam
